French photographer Brigitte Lacombe is known for her influential and revelatory portraiture. For four decades, she has created definitive and intimate photographs of many of the world’s most celebrated artists, actors, directors, politicians, and intellectuals.
As a special photographer and at the invitation of the directors, Lacombe has documented the film sets of Martin Scorsese for the last 25 years. She has also photographed the film sets of Alejandro González Iñárritu, Wes Anderson, Lynne Ramsay, Quentin Tarantino, Spike Jonze, Steven Spielberg, and others.
Lacombe has worked on Advertising campaigns for Dior, Prada, Miu Miu, Chanel, Hermes, and others.
In 2019, filmmaker Lynne Ramsay directed a documentary on Lacombe titled "Brigitte" for Miu Miu Women's Tales, a Miuccia Prada-led initiative that has showcased films written and directed by female filmmakers over the last 15 years.
Lacombe has published several monographs, including “Lacombe: Cinema/Theater,” Shirmer Mosel, and "Lacombe: Anima/Persona," Steidl Dangin, and has served as a juror for multiple international film festivals.
Her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows, including “Martin Scorsese” at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York, “Celebrating Women Artists” at La Galerie Dior in Paris, “I Am Film” at the Doha Film Institute Gallery in Doha, Qatar, “Brigitte Lacombe: Complicities” at Phillips in New York, Paris, and London, and "Face To Face: Portraits of Artists” at the International Center for Photography (ICP) in New York. She is currently at work on a major retrospective exhibition, scheduled to open in Fall 2027.
She has traveled the world extensively for her work and resides between New York City and Paris.
